Super Visa for Parents & Grandparents

REQUEST CONSULTATION

Eligible parents and grandparents can visit family in Canada for longer periods of time than they can on a visiting visa by applying for the parent and grandparent super visa.

A multiple-entry visa that allows for multiple entries for up to ten years is known as a super visa. The main distinction is that a 10-year multiple entry visa would only have a six-month status term for each entry whereas the super visa permits an individual to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time.

Do your grandparents or parents living abroad want to come to Canada? Do you have questions concerning the income requirements for super visas? To learn more about the programme and its benefits contact Legal Way to get the right answers to your super visa questions.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for a Super Visa for Canada?

To qualify for a Canadian super visa, the applicant must:

  • Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian permanent resident or citizen.
  • Apply from outside Canada.
  • Have a signed letter of invitation from the child or grandchild they are visiting in Canada
  • Have medical insurance coverage of at least $100,000 CAD valid for at least one year from a Canadian insurance provider.
  • Meet other admissibility requirements, including clearing a medical exam. The Canadian government may also assess other factors while reviewing super visa applications, including the applicant’s ties to their home country, the purpose of their visit, the economic and political stability of their home country, and more.

What is the Processing Fee for a Parent or Grandparent Super Visa?

The application processing fee for parent or grandparent super visa is approximately $100 CAD. Additionally, there might be an $85 fee for biometric processing and between $200 CAD and $300 CAD for a medical exam. Please note that the above fees do not include the cost of travel, compulsory health insurance, courier charges, or the cost of their stay in Canada.

What is the processing time of a super visa?

Depending on the country you apply from, a super visa has different processing times. For instance, the typical processing period (excluding the time for the submission of biometrics) if you are applying from India is 135 days.

The quantity of applications the government receives, the degree to which your application is complete, and the ease with which the information you've provided can be verified, will all affect how quickly your application is processed. Before applying, make sure to check the government website for the most recent processing times.

Can my grandparents or parents work in Canada with a super visa?

Your parents or grandparents cannot work while they are in Canada on a super visa because it only offers the holder a visiting status. They might, however, be qualified to apply for a work permit while in Canada. It's crucial to keep in mind that if their application for a work permit is granted, their status will shift to that of a temporary worker and their super visa would become invalid.

Can my parents or grandparents stay with me permanently if they have a super visa?

Your parents or grandparents can only visit Canada while their super visa is still active because a super visa is only temporary residence visa. The amount of time they must spend outside of Canada before returning is not capped, though. They will need to have current medical insurance each time they enter Canada, which could take some time to obtain.
